Kyari Mohammed had a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Maiduguri in 1984, and had his postgraduate training at the University of Ibadan where he earned both master’s and doctorate degrees in 1988 and 1995 respectively.
He began his academic career upon appointment as Graduate Assistant by his alma mater – University of Maiduguri – in October 1985. This early introduction into a career of teaching and research has seen the young Kyari Mohammed blossom into an accomplished academic.
Professor Mohammed had served in virtually all administrative positions in the university system. He was at various times, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Director of the Centre for Peace and Security Studies and Vice Chancellor of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, between 2014 and 2019.
An astute administrator, a prudent manager of men and materials, consummate academic, and a socially responsible public intellectual, Professor Mohammed had contributed to making the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola to become one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
A very prolific and versatile scholar he is well published both locally and internationally. Professor Mohammed is today one of the world’s leading scholars on the Boko Haram insurgency. He has conducted field based researches, published widely and spoken at various fora both in Nigeria and abroad.
He has consulted for various organizations on non-state armed actors, Boko Haram insurgency, counter insurgency as well as peace building and post conflict reconstruction.

He is currently Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu.
